University of Alabama Professor of English

I'm a poet (and writer of other types of texts such as libretti, animated text, documentary and lyric research-based writing). Examples are on my site robinbehn.com. I'm also a musician. I'm a professor of English teaching in the MFA Program in Creative Writing at the University of Alabama where I'm a Collaborative Arts Research Inititative faculty fellow. I'm currently part of a collaborative project, Requiem for the Innocent: El Paso and Beyond, with documentary photographer John Willis and composer Matan Rubinstein, about the spontaneous memorials that arose in the aftermath of the mass shooting targeting Hispanics in El Paso last year. This project takes several forms: a traveling gallery exhibition (which we hope to bring to a number of universities and other galleries--let me know if you are interested in scheduling an exhibition next year, post-pandemic--, a book, a limited edition portfolio, and a film: we will be showing some of the film and discussing our project on Monday, October 26 at 11:00 EST. I will also be part of the panel with my CARI colleagues on Tuesday, Oct 27. I'd love to talk about future projects collaborating with other types of artists and with researchers in myriad fields including medicine, history, etc. I enjoy researching new topics and am open-minded as to what they might be. I'm contemplating a project having to do with the lifecycle of clothing, locally and globally, and the people it affects.
