Lecturer - Concert Choir
Conductor and composer Patrick Murray is Lecturer in the Department of Arts, Culture, and Media at University of Toronto Scarborough, where he conducts the Concert Choir. Between 2018-2020, Murray served as Coordinator of Choral Activities at Western University (London, ON), where he directed three choirs and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in conducting and choral literature. Choirs under his direction have been recognized in the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs and been invited to perform at Podium, Canada’s national choral conference. As a composer, Murray's choral music has been commissioned and performed by numerous ensembles in the United States and Canada, been recognized by the SOCAN Young Composer's Award and the DaCapo Chamber Choir NewWorks Award, and is published by Cypress Choral Music and Renforth Music. Murray’s academic research focuses on artistic practices of community collaboration in contemporary American choral music. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Music and the Yale School of Music, and currently holds a SSHRC doctoral fellowship at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
